Navy ROTC at University of Washington
NROTC University of Washington
NROTC at University of Washington contracts midshipmen on national scholarships into the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps.
About this program
The University of Washington NROTC unit -- the Husky Battalion -- was one of the first six NROTC units established in the United States, in 1926. In roughly the century since, it has produced hundreds of Navy and Marine Corps junior officers through a program of mental, moral, and physical development.
The battalion is made up of midshipmen, STA-21 officer candidates, and MECEP enlisted Marines. Midshipmen can earn the NROTC four-year national scholarship or join directly through the college program, commissioning into either the Navy or Marine Corps. Training spans naval science classes, physical training, field exercises, regulation drill, and summer cruises.
Beyond the classroom, the unit offers extracurricular opportunities including the annual Northwest Navy competition, a sailing team, and Navy and Marine Corps Birthday Balls. Upon graduation, members commission as Ensigns in the Navy or Second Lieutenants in the Marine Corps, with an obligated-service term ranging from four to eight years depending on branch and community.
