About this program

The University of Utah is the host of the Ute Battalion, a Navy and Marine Corps ROTC community that trains students to commission as Ensigns or Second Lieutenants upon graduation. The battalion brings together scholarship and college-program midshipmen with prior-enlisted Sailors and Marines in the STA-21 and MECEP programs, supported by a staff of five active-duty members and three civilians led by the Commanding Officer. As a host unit, Utah also trains cross-town students from Westminster College and Weber State University.

Utah NROTC points to a strong track record: a cumulative battalion GPA around 3.37, a 100% pass rate on Navy Nuclear Reactors interviews, and 89% of midshipmen earning their first-choice Navy service selection since 2017. The program combines classroom naval science, battalion training, and physical fitness to develop leaders grounded in the core values of honor, courage, and commitment.
