About this program

The Jayhawk Battalion at the University of Kansas is one of the country's top Army ROTC programs and carries a tradition dating back to World War I. Established in 1918, KU Army ROTC has commissioned more than 2,300 second lieutenants, and the university offers the distinctive advantage of having all military services represented on campus. Cadets come from every background—former student-government presidents, varsity captains, and honor-society members—and pursue a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Active Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard.

A cadet's week combines physical training three mornings a week, a Thursday leadership lab and military science class, and hands-on events supporting the campus and community. Cadets complete two field training exercises each year and attend the 37-day Cadet Summer Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, between their junior and senior years. Beyond the classroom, the program offers adventure training such as helocasts, weapons ranges, and combatives, along with military balls and other traditions. Scholarship opportunities can cover 100% of tuition and fees plus a book allowance and stipend.
