About this program

The University of Idaho / Washington State University Navy and Marine Corps ROTC is a joint program that develops midshipmen mentally, morally, and physically for commissioning into the Navy or Marine Corps. The battalion brings together scholarship and college-program midshipmen, Marine Corps MECEP participants, and STA-21 officer candidates, many of them pursuing engineering and other STEM majors.

Academics are a point of pride: the unit maintains a combined GPA above 3.30, supported by math and physics tutors who come directly to the unit and by extensive study programs. University of Idaho engineering students pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam at a 92% rate, well above the national average. The NROTC scholarship covers full tuition and fees at both the Idaho and Washington State campuses, and roughly 85% of Navy-option scholarships go to students in high-demand engineering, math, and science majors.

NROTC students can live together in the Gooding Wing of the Wallace Residence Hall Complex, building camaraderie among motivated roommates. New students attend New Student Indoctrination at Great Lakes or New Student Orientation on campus, and the surrounding region offers skiing, hiking, rafting, and other outdoor recreation.
