Aggie Battalion (Utah State)

About this program

Utah State University's Army ROTC, the Aggie Battalion, trains and educates future Army officers through experience that reaches well beyond the classroom. The program is designed so cadets can pursue a commission without interfering with their other coursework, while gaining discipline, leadership skills, and money toward tuition.

Students typically begin by enrolling in Military Science 1010 (fall) and 1020 (spring). Those who have two or more years left toward a degree but not enough time for the freshman and sophomore ROTC sequence can enter through the Basic Camp course held each summer at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Cadets can also compete for two-, three-, or four-year scholarships and other incentives.

A notable benefit for Utah students: under Utah H.B. 177, effective July 1, 2026, a student enrolled at USU who participates in ROTC and is eligible to enlist in a U.S. military branch may be granted Utah resident student status for tuition purposes, with the Residency Office coordinating directly with the Army and Air Force ROTC departments.
