Fighting Irish Battalion

About this program

The Fightin' Irish Battalion is the University of Notre Dame's Army ROTC program, headquartered in the Pasquerilla Center on campus. Its mission is to recruit, educate, develop, and inspire senior ROTC cadets into commissioned officers of character for the Total Army, and cadets can expect demanding, challenging training as they grow into future Army leaders.

The program consistently ranks among the very best in the country. It was recognized as the #1 Army ROTC program in the nation for the 2024-2025 academic year and has won the 7th Brigade General MacArthur Award for top program in 2023, 2024, and 2025, out of 38 brigade universities. Cadets carry a strong academic record, with a 3.6 average cumulative GPA, seven Distinguished Military Graduates (top 20% nationally) named for 2025-2026, and a 100% military-school graduation rate.

Students do not have to attend Notre Dame to join: cross-town agreements allow cadets enrolled at Saint Mary's College, Holy Cross College, Bethel University, and Indiana University South Bend to contract through the battalion. Prospective cadets are encouraged to reach out to current cadets to learn firsthand what cadet life is really like.
