Husky Battalion

About this program

UConn Army ROTC—known as the Nathan Hale Battalion—teaches leadership through classroom military science, leadership labs, physical training, and field training exercises, preparing cadets to earn a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Active Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard. The program has deep roots at the University of Connecticut, tracing back to its ROTC commissioning class of 1918.

A defining feature of the Nathan Hale Battalion is its statewide reach: the program extends to roughly ten campuses across Connecticut. The University of Connecticut in Storrs serves as the host school and the University of New Haven as an extension school, with cadets also drawn from institutions such as Central Connecticut State University and Eastern Connecticut State University. Classes and labs are held at either the host or extension schools, so cadets attend from wherever their home campus falls within the battalion's network while receiving the same training and support.
