AFROTC at Texas A&M University-College Station trains cadets for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force in Texas.
About this program
Air Force ROTC Detachment 805 at Texas A&M University is the largest AFROTC detachment in the nation, enrolling more than 800 cadets each fall. It is also one of the oldest, established in the early 1920s as one of just four original Air ROTC units, and its lineage includes eight of Texas A&M's ten four-star generals.
Underclass cadets train within named wings that carry the detachment's history: the Robbins Wing trains freshmen (AS100) and is named for Lt. Gen. Jay T. Robbins '40, who flew 181 combat missions in World War II, while the Gamble Wing prepares sophomores (AS200) for Field Training and honors Gen. Pat Gamble '67. Cadets take part in base visits, leadership conferences, incentive flights, and opportunities such as Project GO study abroad and USAFA SOAR.
Scholarships are extensive. Beyond national AFROTC scholarships, Texas A&M offers the Patriot Scholarship covering room and board for AFROTC scholarship recipients, and Corps of Cadets scholarships — with non-residents in the Corps receiving in-state tuition rates that save roughly $28,000 per year. Medical-track cadets can also compete for the Air Force's HPSP to fund medical school.
