About this program

Known as the Stinger Battalion, Georgia Tech's Army ROTC program sits in the heart of Atlanta and trains cadets to become leaders, scholars, athletes, and soldiers. It is a true consortium: cadets from Kennesaw State University (organized as Owl Company) and from Emory University and Agnes Scott College (cross-enrolled as Yellow Jacket Company) train alongside Georgia Tech students, attending class, leadership lab, and physical training together.

The program's history runs deep — rooted in the National Defense Act of 1916 and beginning at Georgia Tech in 1917, it has commissioned more than 7,000 cadets as second lieutenants over the past century. Today the battalion is run by cadre representing seven branches of the Army with over 150 years of combined active-duty service, who serve as advisors, mentors, and instructors.

Cadets add physical training, leadership labs, and Military Science courses to their degree work and complete a field training exercise each semester, including M4 qualification and situational-training lanes at Fort Moore. Beyond the core program, cadets compete on the Ranger Challenge team, attend Airborne and Air Assault schools, study abroad through Project GO, and take on DoD summer internships — plus lighter traditions like the annual “Toilet Bowl” football game against Georgia State's Panther Battalion.
